Dan Flemming's personal detailing career, and experiences.

Some of my many Past, Present, and Current, jobs & detailing projects!

This page will always be expanding to include my latest projects!

As I think back, to all of the many magnificent projects I've been involved with, the one word that truly describes most of these jobs is WOW!
I either helped design, detail/draft, write programming, or consult on these incredible variety of jobs/projects.
I can't help but feel nothing but pride, at their glorious presents.
Some of these jobs were to say the least, difficult, but the challenge gave me a reason to BE ALIVE! To create the sometimes impossible!
To become a total wreck of squirming nerves!
Hoping my presents makes THE DIFFERENCE!

These are but just a few:

Tampa/Ford Amphitheater.

I designed part of this roof system!
The company (ASFI) lost their whole design team 3/4's of the way through the project!
After weeks of negotiations, I finally agreed to finish the job for them (and for peanuts! I might add).

As I started this project I was approximately 2 months behind.
I found so many design errors right off the bat!, I started to walk-out, BUT the desire TO DO THE IMPOSSIBLE!, soon overcome my sanity.
Not only did I find, and fix all the problems, I got the shop straightened out, about how to check their work, and what to look for while fabricating the arch'd trusses.

Because I found so many mistakes in the drawings, I got with the shop foreman, and started checking the arch'd trusses that were being finished.
We checked the current trusses, and found most were NOT correctly fabricated!
He got with his fabrication staff, and started correcting the mistakes.
Meanwhile, the gargantuan beams another company was fabricating, had some design criteria that HAD TO BE MET!
I informed their shop manager of the critical measurements, and waited, hoping, they were being fabricated correctly (the main beams were only 256'-0" long, from mounting-points).

Then the shop foreman QUIT!

He told me that the owner was (and had) changed some of the part sizes, and he was afraid they might fail, thus trying to blame HIM for the costly mistakes!
Like most people, I thought he was just being paranoid, but the owner REALLY WAS LIKE THAT!
Every employee that worked there, "joked" about his "sabotaging" the projects, mostly by changing the design or material sizes, without consulting the designers.
It was HIS company! Who were they to argue with his decisions? (You just can't WIN, for losing!)
He was his own worst enemy!

I was also given the tremendous task of developing a gigantic rain gutter system "ON-THE-FLY" (as if I didn't have enough work to do already!).
Try to design a rain gutter on arch'd surfaces, where you have no idea of where the surfaces are (the 3D-model was nowhere to be found! So I had to re-create the whole roof structure from scratch!), HOPING & PRAYING the details I was using were correctly designed by the previous design team!

Once I put the drawings together, I had to sub-out fabrication of some of the parts. You know the drill, find companies with enough spare time to fabricate the items needed INSTANTLY, then get their bids, and GET-'R-DONE!
Meanwhile the owner was changing some of the materials and fabrication designs, behind my back!

I am Proud to say, I finished the work on time, AND under budget!

Come to think of it... I didn't even get a thank you from ASFI, or an invitation to the grand opening ceremonies, NOT EVEN TICKETS TO A CONCERT for my tremendous efforts!

That's the thanks we get for saving our employer's butt, and making them so much money!

Interesting details about the job.
