Dansmark started out of sheer frustration!

  The first company I started detailing steel with didn't utilize much programming that actually worked (in my opinon, the supervisor didn't want them to work! It cut out his overtime!).
  Jobs were laborious and very time consuming. Mistakes were common place (mostly from the mis-direction of the supervisor, which I still think, was intentional, so the company would have to rely on him as the sole source, of correct information).

Hey, what can you say, you get what you pay for!

Jobs that took 2 drafters (I was working with at the time), 1-2 weeks to detail, I could do with my software in 1-2 days! (he sure didn't want any part of efficiency and faster productivity!)

  Realizing the potential for good programming I started writing steel detailing software in my off hours and on weekends.
  My original goal was to start my own detailing service. I wanted to focus on the type of detailing most of the 3rd party, AutoCAD software, mainstream missed.

  I wanted to make everything parametric (draw plan & elevation, while parametricly drawing all the parts involved, in shop drawings) and create a B.O.M. from all parts drawn.
  I soon realized just how much programming was missing from the mainstream programs.
  I also began to focused on everyday, laborious task, software.
I created hundreds of programs (out of everyday need, to speed up my productivity), from simple text manipulation, to complex printer drivers (Adobe ".pdf" printing), to multiple network printer software.
  I could print 10 times faster that the standard printer dialog AutoCAD uses to print with, while using a broad variety of printers.
  Batch printing is easy using my software (I can batch print, different size drawings, to different printers over a network!)

  Of all the programming I've created, my favorite is still ScaleMaster.
This software was developed in r14 to handle PaperSpace/ModelSpace relationships. It does what AutoCAD promised, yet didn't quite deliver! (in my opinion).
